The Key to the Preserve
These icons will help identify the types of pollinators found at the Crystal Springs Preserve.
Native
Originating in a particular place and not introduced by humans.
Butterfly
A butterfly is a flying insect with a small body and large, often colorful wings with extensive patterns. Butterflies undergo a transformation called metamorphosis, starting as an egg, then hatching into a caterpillar, forming a chrysalis, and finally emerging as a butterfly. Butterflies play important roles in ecosystems as pollinators, helping plants reproduce and as a food source for other animals, such as birds and bats.

Moth
A moth is a flying insect that typically has feathery antennae, duller colors, and stouter bodies as compared to butterflies. Most moths are nocturnal. Moths play an important role in our ecosystem both as a pollinator and as a food source.
